In 1850, California wanted to be admitted as a state. This was known as "The Compromise of 1850". This would have uneven the ratio of free to slave states. This resulted in California being a free state, Texas gave up land for the price ten million U.S. dollar, slavery was abolished in Washington, D.C. , and The Fugitive Slave Act was passed. The Compromise of 1850 wasn't the only important event during 1850. The Fugitive Slave Act was also put into action. The Fugitive slave Act was an act passed stating that citizens must aid and house fugitive slaves. This angered some Northerners because they did not wish to house and aid fugitive slaves. Slaves were also denied a jury. Last but not least the Georgia Platform. The Georgia Platform consisted of the North accepting the Fugitive Slave Act. The Act also stated that the North cannot ban slavery in new states. Anything else this endorsement of the Compromise of 1850 temporarily halted the movement for immediate secession throughout the South.
The Missouri Compromise took place in 1820. The Missouri compromise created a large amount of conflict between the North and South. Each side wanted to have more land so it would be able to overpower the other.The states decided to make Missouri and Maine a free states. If this was carried out there would be an uneven amount of free to slave states. The North and South eventually came to a compromise.The results were Maine would be admitted as free state while, Missouri would be admitted as a slave state. That wasn't the only change this compromise brought. Slavery would not be allowed anywhere Northwest on the United States.

The tension between regions of a country are created by many causes. Sectionalism was the main for the Civil War. One side of the United States did not agree with another side of the United States resulting in a war. The two sides were the Northerners and the Southerners. They disagreed on topics like slavery and were very different economically and physically. The North was industrialized while the South based most of their work on agriculture. The two also disagreed on slavery. The North abolished slavery while the South continued to allow it. The South also disagreed with the form of government the United States had. South Carolina nullified against the United States government.South Carolina for example thought that it's states' rights should come before the rights of the government.
